
Born in Dallas, Texas, Robin Wright Penn made her cinematic debut in 1987 in Rob Reiner's cult classic “The Princess Bride”. Two of her first nominations, a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, came in 1995 for her role opposite Tom Hanks in Robert Zemeckis' “Forrest Gump”. She earned a Screen Actors Guild nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role in Nick Cassavetes' “She’s So Lovely” (1997), opposite Sean Penn and John Travolta, and her second for Best Actress in Fred Schepisi’s “Empire Falls” (2005). She has received three Independent Spirit Award nominations for her performances in Erin Dignam’s “Loved” (1997), Rodrigo Garcia’s “Nine Lives” (2005) and Jeff Stanzler’s “Sorry, Haters” (2005).
In the 90’s, other film credits include Barry Levinson's “Toys” (1992) opposite Robin Williams, Pen Densham’s “Moll Flanders” (1996) opposite Morgan Freeman, Anthony Drazan’s “Hurlyburly” (1998) opposite Kevin Spacey and Luis Mandoki’s “Message in a Bottle” (1999) opposite Kevin Costner and Paul Newman.
In 2000, she worked with Night M. Shyamalan in “Unbreakable” opposite Bruce Willis and then starred in Sean Penn’s “The Pledge” (2001) opposite Jack Nicholson. She also acted in Peter Kosminsky's “White Oleander” (2002), Keith Gordon's “The Singing Detective” (2003), Anthony Minghella’s “Breaking and Entering” (2006), Robert Zemeckis’ “Beowulf” (2007), Barry Levinson’s “What Just Happened” (2008) and Kevin Macdonald’s “State of Play” (2009) opposite Russell Crowe.
She starred this year in Rebecca Miller’s “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” and Robert Zemeckis’ “A Christmas Carol”.
