Hal Hartley

After gra­dua­ting in film­ma­king at the Uni­ver­si­ty of New York, Hal Hart­ley direc­ted three shorts films, before making his fea­ture debut The Unbe­lie­vable Truth in 1989. His second film, Trust, won the Best Screen­play Award at the 1991 Sun­dance Film Fes­ti­val, as well as the Audience and Coup de Cœur Awards at the Deau­ville Film Fes­ti­val. With these films and his next ones, he influen­ced an entire gene­ra­tion of cine­philes in the 1990s before embar­king on a still more inde­pendent path against the fashion of his era. More fier­ce­ly inde­pendent today than ever, he comes back with Where to Land, his fif­teenth feature.
