About

Born in New York City, he grew up in Queens and attend­ed the Uni­ver­si­ty of South­ern Cal­i­for­nia School of Cin­e­ma-Tele­vi­sion. He made his direc­to­r­i­al debut in 1994 at the age of 25 with Lit­tle Odessa, a wide­ly acclaimed film that received the Sil­ver Lion at the Venice Film Fes­ti­val and the Crit­ics’ Award at the Deauville Film Fes­ti­val. In 2000, he wrote and direct­ed The Yards, which pre­miered in com­pe­ti­tion at the Cannes Film Fes­ti­val. His next film We Own the Night (2007) was also screened in com­pe­ti­tion at Cannes as well as Two Lovers (2008), The Immi­grant (2013) and Armaged­don Time this year.
