Deauville Industry Encounters
Bridging French and American Cinema
The New Deauville Professional Program
« Our goal is for Deauville to serve as a strategic hub where French and American industries can come together, bringing the best of who they are, to foster synergies and inspire collaborations that will drive the future of cinema. »
Aude Hesbert, Director of the Festival
Since the invention of cinema in France and the United States, the influences between our two countries have never ceased to fertilize our industries.
For as long as cinema has existed, America has been the stuff of dreams for French pioneers like Alice Guy and Gustave Méliès, who ventured to the United States to set up studios and produce films. At the same time, American films were already flooding onto French screens. Today, Richard Linklater is shooting Nouvelle Vague in France – a film infused with his American sensibility, Jim Jarmusch, the most New York of American filmmakers, is revisiting Paris with Father Mother Sister Brother, Rebecca Zlotowski is filming with Jodie Foster in Vie Privée, Alice Winocour with Angelina Jolie in Coutures, while Coralie Fargeat triumphed last year at the Oscars with an all-American film shot entirely in France (The Substance)…
Our two countries have preserved industries that are as vital as they are unique. Two industries that have many opportunities to cross paths but don’t speak the same language. Although films are still not made in France as they are in the United States, in a context of accelerating globalization, synergies have become a necessity for both France and the United States.
The Deauville American Film Festival is a platform for the exchange of best practices on both sides of the Atlantic, and a space for dialogue to better understand each other in order to collaborate more effectively.
All sessions will be in English only.
