The 51st edi­tion of the fes­ti­val opens in the pres­ence of actress Pamela Ander­son, a pop cul­ture icon, and étoile dancer Marie-Agnès Gillot, who deliv­ers a breath­tak­ing per­for­mance on the CID stage.

Young actress Zoey Deutch receives a Deauville Tal­ent Award, while Kim Novak, the last great glam­orous star of Hollywood’s Gold­en Age, returns to Deauville for the sec­ond time and is greet­ed with a stand­ing ova­tion dur­ing the cer­e­mo­ny held in her hon­or. The Fes­ti­val also pays posthu­mous trib­ute to the great actor Paul New­man, also a direc­tor, rac­ing dri­ver, and tire­less philanthropist.

Actor and direc­tor Joel Edger­ton is also present to receive a Deauville Tal­ent Award and to present Clint Bentley’s lyri­cal and beau­ti­ful film Train Dreams.

Kris­ten Stew­art, one of the most tal­ent­ed actress­es of her gen­er­a­tion, presents her first film as a direc­tor, The Chronol­o­gy of Water, and speaks about the French films that inspired her dur­ing a pas­sion­ate and engag­ing discussion.

The fes­ti­val also hon­ors Alice Guy, a pio­neer of cin­e­ma who was too long left in the shad­ows, through a ret­ro­spec­tive of sev­er­al of her Amer­i­can short films. For the first time, the Deauville Indus­try Encoun­ters are also orga­nized: a day ded­i­cat­ed to French and Amer­i­can film pro­fes­sion­als, who were able to exchange ideas dur­ing workshops.

Final­ly, Pres­i­dent of the Jury Gol­shifteh Fara­hani and her jurors award the Grand Prix to the debut fea­ture The Plague by Char­lie Polinger, a com­ing-of-age sto­ry tinged with fantasy.
