Originally from Namur, Belgium, Cécile de France trained at the Lyon National Superior School of Theater Arts. In 2002, she broke out in Cédric Klapisch’s The Spanish Apartment, a role which earned her the César for Most Promising Actress. In 2006, she won in the Best Supporting Actress category for the film’s sequel, Russian Dolls. That year, she also starred alongside Roschdy Zem in his directorial debut, Bad Faith. She went on to pursue an international film career working with such directors as the Dardenne brothers, Clint Eastwood, Claude Chabrol, Xavier Giannoli, Wes Anderson, Catherine Corsini and Paolo Sorrentino. She recently re-teamed with Cédric Klapisch for Colours of Time and played the lead role in Yann Gozlan’s speculative sci-fi film Dalloway and in Sophie Beaulieu’s romantic comedy The Doll. She will soon appear in Lauriane Escaffre and Yvo Muller’s Women on Trial, presented at the most recent Cannes Film Festival.
