About

Émilie Tronche joined the Atelier de Sèvres in 2014 before continuing her studies at the Angoulême Animation Trade School, graduating in 2019. She then directed Promenade sentimentale, a short film adapted from a Paul Verlaine poem, for the seventh season of the “Coming Out of School” program broadcast on France Télévisions. In 2020, she created the character of Samuel, a 10-year-old boy who recounts episodes from his life inspired by childhood memories, set to music and dance. When she spontaneously published online the short animated film that would become the first episode of Samuel, she was scouted by producer Damien Megherbi, founder of the production company Les Valseurs, who proposed that she develop Samuel’s adventures for an online series. Broadcast by Arte through its arte.tv site, it became a bona fide hit and has today earned over 50 million views. In 2025, she published Samuel’s Journal, a graphic novel co-published by Arte Éditions and Casterman. Émilie Tronche is currently working on a feature adaptation of the Belgian comic Incredible! by Zabus and Hippolyte, in collaboration with the film’s director Benjamin Massoubre.
