For more than fifty years, Faye Dunaway has captivated audiences with her ability to embody strong and complex women, caught between vulnerability and determination. A muse of New Hollywood, she has managed to traverse genres with an elegance and intensity that belong only to her.
Born in Florida, Faye Dunaway is one of the defining actresses of American cinema.
She rose to international fame in 1967 with Otto Preminger’s Hurry Sundown, earning both the BAFTA and Golden Globe Awards for Most Promising Newcomer. That same year, her unforgettable portrayal of Bonnie Parker in Arthur Penn’s Bonnie and Clyde established her as an international star and earned her the first of three Academy Award nominations. She reunited with Arthur Penn for Little Big Man (1970) and went on to deliver a series of iconic performances in films including Norman Jewison’s The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Roman Polanski’s Chinatown (1974) and Sydney Pollack’s Three Days of the Condor (1975). In 1977, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of ambitious television executive Diana Christensen in Sidney Lumet’s Network. Over a career spanning more than five decades, she has collaborated with many of the world’s most celebrated filmmakers, starring in Irvin Kershner’s The Eyes of Laura Mars (1978), Frank Perry’s Mommie Dearest (1981), Barbet Schroeder’s Barfly (1987), Emir Kusturica’s Arizona Dream (1993), John McTiernan’s remake of The Thomas Crown Affair (1999), James Gray’s The Yards (2000), and Roger Avary’s The Rules of Attraction (2002). Her work on television has been equally acclaimed, earning her an Emmy Award for Columbo and two Golden Globe Awards for her performances in Ellis Island and Gia.
An icon whose influence extends from film to fashion and popular culture, Faye Dunaway continues to embrace new projects. She will next appear in Prima, alongside Nicola Peltz Beckham, directed by the Morelli Brothers.
