She rose to inter­na­tion­al fame in 1967 with Otto Pre­minger’s Hur­ry Sun­down, earn­ing both the BAFTA and Gold­en Globe Awards for Most Promis­ing New­com­er. That same year, her unfor­get­table por­tray­al of Bon­nie Park­er in Arthur Pen­n’s Bon­nie and Clyde estab­lished her as an inter­na­tion­al star and earned her the first of three Acad­e­my Award nom­i­na­tions. She reunit­ed with Arthur Penn for Lit­tle Big Man (1970) and went on to deliv­er a series of icon­ic per­for­mances in films includ­ing Nor­man Jew­ison’s The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Roman Polan­ski’s Chi­na­town (1974) and Syd­ney Pol­lack­’s Three Days of the Con­dor (1975). In 1977, she won the Acad­e­my Award for Best Actress for her por­tray­al of ambi­tious tele­vi­sion exec­u­tive Diana Chris­tensen in Sid­ney Lumet’s Net­work. Over a career span­ning more than five decades, she has col­lab­o­rat­ed with many of the world’s most cel­e­brat­ed film­mak­ers, star­ring in Irvin Ker­sh­n­er’s The Eyes of Lau­ra Mars (1978), Frank Per­ry’s Mom­mie Dear­est (1981), Bar­bet Schroed­er’s Barfly (1987), Emir Kus­turi­ca’s Ari­zona Dream (1993), John McTier­nan’s remake of The Thomas Crown Affair (1999), James Gray’s The Yards (2000), and Roger Avary’s The Rules of Attrac­tion (2002). Her work on tele­vi­sion has been equal­ly acclaimed, earn­ing her an Emmy Award for Colum­bo and two Gold­en Globe Awards for her per­for­mances in Ellis Island and Gia.
