Born in New York City, Joshua Z. Weinstein spent the 2000s playing bass in the post-hardcore band Trophy Scars, whose DIY punk ethos continues to resonate throughout his filmmaking. He has directed several documentaries and also works as a cinematographer. In 2017, his narrative feature debut, Menashe, won the Jury Prize at the Deauville American Film Festival. The film was also nominated for the Gotham Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards. With Here I’m Alive, he follows up with another quintessential New York story.
