About

Born in New York City, Joshua Z. Wein­stein spent the 2000s play­ing bass in the post-hard­core band Tro­phy Scars, whose DIY punk ethos con­tin­ues to res­onate through­out his film­mak­ing. He has direct­ed sev­er­al doc­u­men­taries and also works as a cin­e­matog­ra­ph­er. In 2017, his nar­ra­tive fea­ture debut, Menashe, won the Jury Prize at the Deauville Amer­i­can Film Fes­ti­val. The film was also nom­i­nat­ed for the Gotham Awards and the Inde­pen­dent Spir­it Awards. With Here I’m Alive, he fol­lows up with anoth­er quin­tes­sen­tial New York story.
