In the ear­ly stages of her career, she cre­at­ed sev­er­al small video projects and per­for­mances that have been pre­sent­ed at sites such as the MoMA and the Guggen­heim Muse­um. Her first fea­ture film, Me and You and Every­one We Know, won sev­er­al prizes in 2005 includ­ed the Crit­ics’ Week Grand Prize and the Caméra d’Or at the Fes­ti­val de Cannes, but also the Spe­cial Jury Prize at Sun­dance. She also wrote the book of short sto­ries “No One Belongs Here More Than You” (2007) and the nov­el “The First Bad Man” (2015).
