Born in Dakar, Mohamed Mbougar Sarr pur­sued his post-bac­calau­re­ate edu­ca­tion in France, study­ing lit­er­a­ture and phi­los­o­phy before begin­ning his writ­ing career. He pub­lished the nov­els “Broth­er­hood” (Présence Africaine, 2014), “The Silence of the Choir” (Présence Africaine, 2017) and “Of Pure Men” (Philippe Rey / Jim­saan, 2018), all of which gar­nered acclaim and awards. For his fourth nov­el, “The Most Secret Mem­o­ry of Men,” pub­lished by Philippe Rey / Jim­saan, he won the Goncourt Prize in 2021. This stun­ning work has been trans­lat­ed into near­ly 40 lan­guages. Mohamed Mbougar Sarr is a Knight of the French Nation­al Order of Mer­it and a Com­man­der of the Repub­lic of Senegal’s Nation­al Order of the Lion.
