The extreme­ly ver­sa­tile Susan Saran­don brings her own brand of sex appeal and intel­li­gence to every role. From her fear­less por­tray­al of Annie Savoy in Ron Sheldon’s Bull Durham to her Oscar-nom­i­nat­ed roles in Rid­ley Scott’s Thel­ma & Louise, George Miller’s Lorenzo’s Oil, Joel Schumacher’s The Client and Louis Malle’s Atlantic City along with her Acad­e­my Award-win­ning role as Sis­ter Helen in Tim Rob­bins’ Dead Man Walk­ing, the actress has con­sis­tent­ly embraced char­ac­ters that chal­lenge expectations.
Susan Saran­don made her screen debut in John G. Avildsen’s Joe in 1970. She went on to work with some of the most cel­e­brat­ed film­mak­ers of her gen­er­a­tion, appear­ing in Sid­ney Lumet’s Lovin’ Mol­ly, Bil­ly Wilder’s The Front Page, Jim Sharman’s The Rocky Hor­ror Pic­ture Show and Louis Malle’s Pret­ty Baby, then Atlantic City that earned her first Best Actress Acad­e­my Award nomination.
Through­out the fol­low­ing decades, Saran­don con­tin­ued to move freely between gen­res and film­mak­ers, appear­ing in Tony Scott’s The Hunger, George Miller’s The Witch­es of East­wick, Euzhan Palcy’s A Dry White Sea­son, Paul Schrader’s Light Sleep­er, Gillian Armstrong’s Lit­tle Women, Chris Colum­bus’ Step­mom, Cameron Crowe’s Eliz­a­beth­town, Peter Jackson’s The Love­ly Bones, and Roger Michell’s Blackbird.
Along­side her film career, she has tak­en on a wide range of tele­vi­sion roles, earn­ing Emmy, Gold­en Globe and SAG Award nom­i­na­tions notably for her por­tray­al of Bette Davis in Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Bette & Joan.
More recent­ly, she appeared in DC’s Blue Bee­tle direct­ed by Angel Manuel Soto, Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight and Stephen Chbosky’s ensem­ble com­e­dy Non­nas. She will next star in The Accom­pa­nist, the fea­ture direc­to­r­i­al debut of Zach Woods.
