Brendan Fraser, Deauville Talent Award at the 52^nd Deauville American Film Festival

In thir­ty years of career, few actors will have embod­ied such a diver­si­ty of faces and fig­ures with as much authen­tic­i­ty, slip­ping just as eas­i­ly into the skin of pop­u­lar char­ac­ters as into that of dev­as­tat­ing anti-heroes. From the great tra­di­tion of adven­ture films to his­tor­i­cal epics, through the bold­est auteur works, Bren­dan Fras­er has estab­lished his sin­cer­i­ty and vul­ner­a­bil­i­ty as a unique imprint on con­tem­po­rary Amer­i­can cin­e­ma. The Deauville Fes­ti­val is pleased to award him a Deauville Tal­ent Award this year for its 52^nd edi­tion. Fol­low­ing his award cer­e­mo­ny, Bren­dan Fras­er will present the pre­miere of Pres­sure by Antho­ny Maras, also present at the Festival.

Ris­ing to fame in the 1990s through a series of beloved films that have since become cult clas­sics, Bren­dan Fras­er estab­lished him­self as one of Hol­ly­wood’s most endear­ing fig­ures thanks to a rare blend of humor, gen­eros­i­ty, and phys­i­cal com­mit­ment. After sev­er­al years away from the screen, his stun­ning come­back in Dar­ren Aronof­sky’s The Whale, which earned him the Acad­e­my Award for Best Actor in 2023, marked the rebirth of an artist whose career has nev­er stopped sur­pris­ing. This year, he will soon star in Antho­ny Maras’ Pres­sure, con­firm­ing the renewed momen­tum of a career that now brings togeth­er acclaimed auteurs, ambi­tious pro­duc­tions, and pop­u­lar successes.

Born in Indi­ana, Bren­dan Fras­er spent his child­hood between Europe, the Unit­ed States, and Cana­da. Trained at the Cor­nish Col­lege of the Arts in Seat­tle after dis­cov­er­ing the­ater at the age of twelve, he began his career in Hol­ly­wood in the ear­ly 1990s before quick­ly ris­ing to fame. He then achieved a string of suc­cess­es with George of the Jun­gle (1997), fol­lowed by The Mum­my tril­o­gy (1999−2008), which became one of the most pop­u­lar adven­ture fran­chis­es in cin­e­ma. At the same time, he demon­strat­ed the breadth of his range in Gods and Mon­sters (1998), Bedaz­zled (2000), The Qui­et Amer­i­can (2002), Crash (2005), win­ner of the Acad­e­my Award for Best Pic­ture, and Jour­ney to the Cen­ter of the Earth (2008), the first block­buster shot entire­ly in 3D, which he also pro­duced. Along­side his film career, he has also made his mark on tele­vi­sion in series such as Scrubs, The Affair, Trust, Con­dor, and Doom Patrol, as well as on the stages of Lon­don’s West End and Broadway.

His award cer­e­mo­ny will take place on Sat­ur­day, Sep­tem­ber 5^th and will be fol­lowed by the pre­miere screen­ing of Pres­sure, direct­ed by Antho­ny Maras.

STUDIOCANAL and Work­ing Title devel­oped Pres­sure with Antho­ny Maras based on the extra­or­di­nary true sto­ry around the three day run up to D‑Day. Olivi­er award-win­ner David Haig and Antho­ny Maras wrote the screen­play based on Haig’s crit­i­cal­ly laud­ed play, which enjoyed a huge­ly suc­cess­ful run in London’s West End, before going on to be per­formed for Her Majesty The Queen and world lead­ers to mark the D‑Day 75^th anniver­sary in 2019.
