Synopsis

Born in 1916 into a poor fam­i­ly who fled Russ­ian anti-Semi­tism, Kirk Dou­glas, whose real name was Issur Danielovitch, began film­mak­ing in the 1940s, notably in Jacques Tourneur’s Out of the Past. In the 1950s, he was at the top of his glo­ry, chain­ing up sig­nif­i­cant roles, in such as The Big Sky or Lust for Life. Com­mit­ted, he pro­duced films that were dif­fi­cult to imple­ment, such as The Paths of Glo­ry and Spar­ta­cus. To paint a por­trait of this Hol­ly­wood leg­end, the doc­u­men­tary film­mak­er went to meet his rel­a­tives and fans.
